"A new definition of finding a place to PARK!"

buildingcommunityWORKSHOP

WHAT:
Main Street Brownsville and buildingcommunityWORKSHOP [bc] have partnered to announce PARK(ing) Day, a global event where citizens, artists and activists collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spaces into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary public places, to be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, September 16, 2016, in Brownsville’s Main Street District.

Main Street Brownsville and [bc] solicited participation from local designers and various Downtown Brownsville businesses and organizations to take part in PARK(ing) Day by transforming metered parking spaces in front of their establishments.

Participating entities include: the City of Brownsville, [bc], Brownsville Artists and Musicians (BAM), Brownsville Historical Association – Stillman House, Community Development Corporation of Brownsville – YouthBuild Brownsville, The Kraken Lounge, Terra’s Bar & Grill, and The WorkPub.

Following PARK(ing) Day, Main Street Brownsville, [bc], and BAM will host a PARK(ing) Day Celebration from 6 to 9 p.m. featuring live music, an artisan market and craft fair, and food truck vendors, including: Park Coffee, The Whoo Dee Who, The Dawg Bar, and DEZ BBQ.

PARK(ing) Day began in 2005 when Rebar, a San Francisco art and design studio, converted a single metered parking space into a temporary public park in downtown San Francisco. Since 2005, PARK(ing) Day has evolved into a global movement, with organizations and individuals creating new forms of temporary public space in urban contexts around the world.
