Terra's Hip & Happening!

Front Facade of Terra's on Elizabeth |
Today's restaurant profile is about Terra's Bar & Grill located at 915 E. Elizabeth in historic downtown Brownsville. I had been hearing about this place all over. I had seen numbers check-ins, a Brownsville Herald Article, a Ribbon Cutting video and hear lots of buzz so I decided to make it my second Profile! I am not at all disappointed at my choice. Today's experience was pleasant and tasty!

Interior of Dining Room |
This is one of many new and exciting things that is evolving in downtown. As most of you know Market Square is undergoing a massive renovation project driven by the city. But aside from that you have several small business popping up including Terra's and even an active social media push to coordinate and inform the public. Recently the Downtown Brownsville Collaborators page was launched and you already have the Revitalize Downtown Brownsville and my own Renew Downtown Brownsville pages that constant promote and share any and all positive news about the area.

Commissioner Cesar De Leon |
Getting back to Terra's... the establishment is located just across from the HEB so at certain hours parking can be a bit of a challenge but we found one just across the street during lunch hour so it's not that bad. Also for those of you that work downtown they have a very active takeout service so be sure to support them and help keep variety alive in downtown. When we visited ran into several well known locals including Judge Neece and Commissioner Cesar De Leon. It's always nice to see people you know supporting local business!

Black Linen & Local Art! |
The decor was similar to an industrial loft. The business is run by three young men who did the work themselves for the most part. They opened up the ceilings which soar above you. The concrete is stained and has an industrial feel. They also used rough cedar for some of the trim work and unfinished wood to build the bar. It all comes together well. In addition to the interior decor the owners also feature local artists and had some amazing pieces displayed. They are available for sale.

Juan Flores - FOH Manager Christian Nevarez - Kitchen Manager |
I met two of the owners who were very nice young men. One was in the back working as the chef and the other was running orders. You have got to respect business owners who get the job done and don't always lean on staff. They slowed down for a minute to chat with me and allow me to snap a quick photo. I see a great attitude, ambition and tenacity in them.

Shrimp Tacos |
The food was tasty, unique, simple yet satisfying. The owner said some people think of there cuisine as Italian meets Mexican. I could definitely see that. The menu was a lot short on options which was a point I discussed with the owner. He expressed that they are really trying to perfect their plates and slowly build their options. I have no doubt they will perfect it over time. It is a full service restaurant with friendly attentive staff. And prices are very reasonable. It strikes me as gourmet style on a downtown Brownsville budget. They do not currently have their liquor license but they are working on it. In the mean time they have free beer nights with an entree. I think you get two beers with one entree... not bad. I urge you all to support them and go by soon so you can also
Be part of it.
